Safety

Safety First, Courtesy a Close Second

Since 1995, over 1 million visitors have discovered America’s Capital City in the comfort and safety of our highly-maintained fleet of Coast Guard Certified amphibious vehicles. Our impeccable safety record is due to our well-trained captains, crew and maintenance personnel as well as our strict adherence to both the United States Coast Guard and the Department of Transportation regulations.

Fully Restored WII DUKW Boats

Our vehicles are authentic, fully-restored WWII DUKW boats that were built to withstand the rigors of war. These colorfully painted amphibious vehicles delight guests with a leisurely journey on land as well as a shoreline excursion in the calm, shallow waters of the Potomac River. We are inspected by the US Coast Guard and the Department of Public Utilities every spring before our season begins. All of our Duck vehicles are inspected twice daily by our mechanics and once prior to departure by our licensed Class B Commercial Drivers in compliance with the Department of Transportation’s required inspection checklist.

Cruising the Calm Potomac River

The Potomac River is a protected body of water that meanders through Maryland, Washington DC & Virginia.  During your journey on the DC Duck Tour, we are never more than a couple of minutes from shore with an average depth of 15 feet.

DC Ducks Weather Policy

We are always vigilant with regards to weather patterns and tide tables and never take our vessel out on the water if we have even the slightest doubt of our rider’s personal safety. We monitor the forecasts from the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Association (NOAA) very closely.

Equipped with the latest safety equipment

All our vessels are equipped with a cell phone and a VHF marine radio connected to our weather center for real-time weather and wind updates. Each passenger has an easily accessible Coast Guard approved life jacket. As an added safety measure, our vehicles are designed with a fully open-air canopy which allows for an easy means of egress. The windshield, located in the captain’s cabin, doesn’t extend to the full height of the canopy thus providing another means of exit in the unlikely event that it is needed.

Coast Guard Certified Master Captains

Our commitment to safety extends to the training of our staff, personnel and fleet mechanics. The Master Captains that pilot our vehicles are all licensed boat captains, have a Commercial Driver’s License and are certified in CPR/First Aid.

So if you’re looking for a unique, entertaining and educational tour during your next visit to our Nation’s Capital, shake your tail feather and book a trip with the DC DUCKS.
